Dr. Fatemeh, ND believes that most people already know something is wrong. What they're missing is someone willing to look. That conviction came from two very different places. The first was science. She started out in physics, then medical physics, then cancer research.
The second was a birth. Birth is unlike anything else in medicine. It is not an illness to be managed or a problem to be solved. It is a threshold — a few hours in which a person is more open, more vulnerable, and more powerful than they will likely ever be again. Someone she loved was labouring, frightened, and unheard. The people caring for her acted without explaining. No one asked her what she wanted. No one made space for her to answer. In a moment that should have belonged to her, she became something being worked on rather than someone being accompanied.
She trained as a birth and postpartum doula after that. Not as an addition to her practice, but because she had seen what its absence costs — and because she believes that a threshold like that deserves someone whose only job is to protect it.
She works with individuals and families through fertility, hormonal health, pregnancy and postpartum, pediatric care, and digestive health.
Her practice runs on two questions, asked together. What does the evidence actually show? And what does this particular person actually need? Neither one is enough on its own. She sees patients in English, Farsi, and Turkish — because in labour, in fear, in exhaustion, people return to the language they dream in. Being able to meet someone there is not a convenience. Sometimes it is the whole thing.

A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is a healthcare professional who has completed a four-year postgraduate program in Naturopathic Medicine and successfully passed rigorous written and practical board examinations. Their training blends conventional and traditional medical knowledge with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice. NDs treat a wide range of health conditions while prioritizing prevention and long-term wellness. While familiar with pharmaceuticals, their care primarily emphasizes nutrition and diet, lifestyle management, targeted supplementation, acupuncture, botanical medicine, physical therapies, counselling, and homeopathy.
An ND or Doula takes the time to truly listen to your concerns and creates a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. During your sessions, your practitioner will guide you through understanding your health conditions, explore the pros and cons of different approaches, and answer your questions with care. These appointments allow for meaningful conversations, giving patients the space to share openly, ask questions, and gain clarity on their health journey.
Examples of therapies available include:
Physical therapies: massage, cupping, and other hands-on techniques
Relaxation practices: meditation, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, breathing and visualization exercises, positive affirmations
Acupressure and acupuncture
Herbal medicine and targeted supplementation
Lifestyle support: nutrition counseling, exercise planning, and overall habit modification

Many extended health care benefit plans include coverage for Naturopathy, allowing patients to claim services. The extent of coverage varies depending on each individual’s insurance policy. Both Doula services and Naturopathic appointments may be eligible for reimbursement under insurance plans.
The decision of when to work with a doula is personal to each family. Whether you choose to connect in the first, second, or third trimester, any stage is the right time to welcome a doula into your journey. That said, many families begin their work with a Doula during the second trimester.
Having a Doula by your side means continuous support from a trusted companion throughout your journey. Families often find it invaluable to have clear explanations of medical terms and procedures, guidance about their rights, education and practical tools, along with hands-on support during labour and birth. Doulas can also offer care for both planned and unplanned C-sections.
Research shows that women supported by a Doula experience shorter labours and hospital stays, require fewer medical interventions, have lower cesarean rates, and report less traumatic birth experiences.
